About the role

The Procurement and Supply Chain Manager is responsible for leading and managing all procurement activities across Group Shared Services. This role is crucial to ensuring value for money in all contracts and procurement exercises.

You’ll assess current procurement strategies, identify cost-saving opportunities, support with purchasing and implement initiatives to improve growth, value, and efficiency across the organisation. By ensuring the effective management of contracts and supplier relationships, you’ll help drive operational success. Additionally, the role will oversee two direct reports, provide support to JRHT (Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust) in their procurement activities for care sites, and assist JRF (Joseph Rowntree Foundation) and the group centre with their procurement needs.

About you

As our Procurement and Supply Chain Manager, we’d like you to hold relevant professional qualifications in procurement (e.g., MCIPS or equivalent), have proven experience in procurement and contract management, ideally in a large, complex organisation and a strong understanding of procurement best practices, strategies, and cost management techniques.

With knowledge of procurement legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements for public and charitable sectors, you’ll have experience of developing and negotiating supplier agreements and be proficient with procurement and contract management systems and tools. With experience of co-ordinating several tenders across an organisation, you’ll have demonstrable ability to lead and manage a team, providing mentorship and direction, able to support and advise colleagues from end to end of the procurement process.

You’ll have excellent negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships with strong stakeholder engagement, communications and customer service skills. With involvement in procurement/purchasing strategies and in significant cost reduction programmes, you’ll be an analytical thinker, able to interpret and analyse multiple data sources, with the ability to identify trends and opportunities for cost savings.

In support of our approach to flexible working, we are happy to receive applications from those seeking full-time employment, as well as those who may want to share the role on a part-time basis. When making your application, please state whether you want to be considered for either full or part-time work and, if part-time, the number of hours per week you would be looking for.

At JRF we’re at our best when we’re continually building on trust, showing we care and making a difference – and hope others will do the same. So, for those roles which allow it, we’re developing a more blended approach to how and where you work. This means you can expect to work flexibly between the office and home (with an expectation of two days a week in your home office).
